Special Event: Ken Jacobs’s NERVOUS MAGIC LANTERN

Friday, February 15, 8:30 PM
Whitney Humanities Center Main Auditorium

We are pleased to announce that legendary artist and filmmaker Ken Jacobs will offer a personal appearance and a Nervous Magic Lantern performance at the Whitney Humanities Center as a part of the Expanding Cinema conference. The Nervous Magic Lantern is a hand-manipulated projector designed by Jacobs to create moving images without the use of celluloid film or video. Inspired both by Jacobs’s own landmark Nervous System projector performances and by pre-cinematic magic lantern technologies, the Nervous Magic Lantern creates hallucinatory optical effects that expand viewers’ understanding of cinematic experience.

Along with his partner Flo Jacobs, Ken Jacobs will perform the piece Time Squared on the Nervous Magic Lantern.
